Dr. Peter Asafo-Adjei is a Plastic Surgeon currently practicing at Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.

After completing his high school education at Graeme College in Grahamstown, he proceeded to study medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree (MBChB) from UCT in 2007.

His love for the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was ignited while rotating through the Red Cross Children’s Hospital as a medical student at UCT. This love was further entrenched when he spent a year as a medical officer in Plastic Surgery at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in 2012.

He was a registrar in General Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg from 2013 until 2016 when he was accepted into the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery programme at Stellenbosch University. Whiles at Stellenbosch University, he trained under Dr Alexander Zühlke and Professor Frank Graewe, both world renowned for performing the world’s first penile transplant.

In 2019, he won the best research paper award at the Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons of Southern Africa (APRASSA) congress for his presentation on a breast reconstructive technique in breast cancer patients. He qualified as a plastic surgeon in 2020 through the fellowship of the college of plastic surgeons (FC Plast Surg) exams. He obtained a Master of Medicine (MMED) qualification in Plastic Surgery qualification from Stellenbosch University in 2022.
